17 Months and 17 weeks

Caleb is 17months and baby is 17weeks.

A few Caleb updates:

  • Talking up a storm. It even sounds like he is talking in sentences we just don’t know the language!
  • Loves to walk(with assistance) and crawl. Hates to have to sit still at all anymore.
  • Loves pretzel sticks, grapes, blueberries and almond milk
  • Has replaced hats and Elmo for books and Barney.
  • He is wearing almost exclusively 2T/24month clothes, although we can still squeeze him on some 18mo ones.
  • Loves phones and calling people “HI” and “HEY'” are his favorites.
  • Loves giving hugs(especially to Mommy, Daddy and kids), will give them on command.

A few baby updates:

  • I can feel baby kick now. Usually its just the light flutters and usually I have to be laying on my side almost to my belly(exaggerated sims position!)But oh, how I love them. Feeling the movements are one of the sweetest things about pregnancy.
  • Our ultrasound is about 3 weeks away and we can’t wait. Josh is still thinking girl…
  • Baby loves smoothies, eating out, cinnamon streusel, berries, and cheese
  • Having a lot of problems with one spot on my upper back hurting a lot(it the opposite side that Caleb caused me, weird!)
  • Just made it back to pre-pregnancy weight. I was told to eat more, I should have gained at least one more pound than I did this past month. Although baby is measuring right on.

More Backyard fun

Picnic with Mommy

2011-02-28 11.51.00

He is very interested in everything that he sees from plants to animals.

2011-02-28 11.51.082011-02-28 12.25.32

He won’t play with any toys in the sandbox, usually he just wants to play with the sand itself. Although he will occasionally include the hose, my foot or a cup!

AHHHH, Don’t touch me!

Curious Little Kitten

Now that Caleb is crawling, he has new territory to explore. He reminded me of the curious little kitten the other day when he was exploring the back yard.

Caleb has a love-hate relationship with dogs. He wants to get close to them and then when he does or when they bark it scares the tar out of him and he looses it, quickly gets over it and wants more. It’s silly. Here he is at the neighbor’s fence looking for their dogs.

Our therapist is hoping that since now he is crawling it will help his feet do what they are supposed to do. The dragging of his feet with the top of them on the ground is exactly what we want to see. (when he was rolling and/or NOT doing tummy time as a baby, he didn’t get that)

Also we are trying to get him to relax his feet when in sitting. He keeps his feet flexed instead. We are supposed to help massage/pull/encourage them to get more to the relaxed or “pointed” position. They are not stiff and are easy to encourage, we just need it to become his normal. Next time you are sitting on the floor(similar to how C is sitting) notice how your feet just naturally relax. Things only a therapist would notice…(but that help him to progress to the next step)

NOTE:the sad faces are only because he was mad I was taking his pictures!

Daddy Daycare

So my first time leaving Caleb was on my girls spa weekend. I leave him for work/sleep, so both of us are used to being apart some. It was very easy to leave knowing that he was in good hands. Josh had him(except when he was at work) and I knew Caleb would do great. I did get one "oops" message about Caleb getting a boo-boo. Josh took C to the park for a totoal of 4.5hrs on Sunday!

Daddy-"Caleb went down the slide head first a little too fast!"
Mommy-"where were YOU?",
Daddy-"at the top".
Mommy-???????

He got a little scrape on his nose, poor boy. But if that's the worse that happened to him we are in good shape.

Girls Weekend

My best friend, Jenn, and I had a girls weekend in honor of my 30th bday! Even though my bday was in January it took us this long to get work and family figured out.

Day 1: Spa day. It was warm and sunny and amazing! When we weren’t getting our massages or mani/pedi we were spending time enjoying the “relaxation room”/porch.  We could have stayed there forever! They closed at 5pm, we left at 5:30pm! ha.

A small hike. Ok, maybe it was tiny! After this we went to the MOVIES! I was very excited about going because I never go anymore. We saw “Unknown”, we both really like it. And to top if off, it was $6/ticket and then ONLY $6 for 2 drinks and a med. popcorn. CrAzY!

He loves his Daddy!

Snuggle time. He will stop playing for a little bit and just snuggle and get some love from his Daddy.

On Daddy’s shoulders and so happy!

Daddy does breakfast with Caleb every morning.(And when he was out of town, and I had to do breakfast, Caleb was cranky!) Daddy spoils him and will hold him and feed him the last half of his bowl of oatmeal! SPOILED!

New Shoes

We made our first trip to Stride Rite. This is something I did as a kid, so it was a fun thing to do with my own kid. I remember going and getting my shoes.

Since he is still working on balance and is not independently walking yet, they suggested a pre-walker. This allows him to feel the floor more than a typical shoe. They didn’t have any of the pre-walkers in the style that I was planning on(brown with velcro) and I am so glad that I went with function instead of ease or look. I love these shoes now and don’t mind tying them(yet!)

P1070490

We had him in a size 4(a pair we bought at a consignment store) and I was completely surprised that he measured for a 5! Whoops! They said that kids will just crinkle up their toes and not think anything of it.

P1070493P1070489

He actually loves his shoes and walking, he just was mad at me for taking his picture!

P1070492

Crawling!

Caleb is crawling!

Whoop Whoop!

PRAISE THE LORD!

P1070494P1070495

He is faster at army crawling and I think he still prefers it. He is actually no longer rolling. His rolling technique and speed was such a cute Caleb trademark that I am sort of sad to see it go. Someone suggested we should video it before he stops, but I think we missed it! Dang!

P1070498P1070499P1070501P1070502P1070503

We are sooo excited that he is crawling. We really had decided that he was going to skip the crawling step but he proved otherwise and is just showing up that he is on his own time table. So at 16months he finally makes one of our dreams come true.

We have been praying for his development-that God would give him the strength, determination, and wisdom to be able to do things like (and especially) sitting up, crawling and walking!

He is really proud of himself and we give him lots of praise when he does his new tricks! He doesn’t go distance quite yet, but as he gets stronger and faster I am sure that is not too far off!

GO, Caleb, GO!
