And the Doctor said…

So here is what we know:

Caleb has a “migratory” disorder. When brain cells are being formed they are supposed to migrate to a specific location depending on what they are for(like vision cells all migrate to the back of the brain). Some of Caleb’s cells did not migrate.

The good news:

  • 3 of the 4 spots they found are so small, Dr. H almost missed them.
  • His brain will learn to compensate.
  • All other aspects of his brain are GREAT.
  • Although he is having some developmental delays there are no other complications at this time.
  • The physical therapy that we are doing with him is working wonders, he is making great progress.
  • This is just “chance” that this happened while his brain was forming. The chance of us having another child with this same problem is like “a golfer getting struck by lightening on the 1st and 9th holes”. Possible but not probable.
  • Caleb is fearfully and wonderfully made.

The bad news:

  • Most children they find with this problem are seeing the neurologist because they are having seizures. Dr. H went over several different types of seizures Caleb COULD have(from the big jerky ones to the silent staring ones)

The plan:

  • Physical Therapy,Physical Therapy, Physical Therapy!
  • See Dr. H in 6months for a follow-up
  • Be aware that seizures might happen. No treatment is needed until they do(and it’s not a guarantee that they will).
  • Pray, Pray, Pray!
