Love Drawer

Have you ever heard of a "Love Drawer"? I found the idea a bit compelling, and after doing some reading on the subject, decided last year to make a "Mears Love Drawer" for Leigh Anne and myself.

Essentially, a love drawer consists of everything you would need in case of an emergency such as: your life, homeowners, and driver's insurance, marriage license, medical records, etc. We keep all of the critical documents for our lives in one place, where both of us would know where to go to retrieve documents, particularly if we are under duress. It's something we don't like to think about, but none-the-less it's a part of life.

We use a waterproof/fireproof safe that is perfect for filing away our papers and other things we put there. I would recommend taking a few minutes to get your life in order in one spot, making it so much easier for your loved ones during tough times.

How Great Thou Art!

Although I really enjoy the newer, more hip songs of the 90's and 2000's, there is something to be said of the older, less commercialized songs of old. This song captures the natural and supernatural splendor of our creator.

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.

Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

The Slopes and The Cellphones!

When we went skiing there was a new problem that I have not encountered any other time that I have ever been skiing. A little thing called the cell phone! People would being skiing down the slope and then fall and start texting! It was crazy. The lifts were full of people making calls and the area at the top of the lift right around where people used to get there stuff together before they would start skiing is full of people just texting. What is this world coming to??!?! A friend sent me this video after I had told her about this new problem. It is not about the texting problem on the slopes but it is about cell phones! It is pretty funny! Enjoy!

Leigh Anne turns 28!

I have a birthday tradition to go the Melting Pot. I love it! So on my actual birthday(Thursday) we went. Josh made reservations and we enjoyed a romantic date night. We were thinking about just doing cheese and chocolate but we (ok I) caved under pressure and we did the entire fondue for two(for those of you who have not been...that includes salad, meat and veggies too). When Josh got off of work on Friday we continued the celebration, and headed to Virginia for a weekend full of snow skiing. If you don't know- birthdays get celebrated for a whole week! It's so much fun saying "It's my birthday week", you can get away with anything, or really NOT doing anything! On Friday evening, I had the car packed and ready to go. Actually, it was packed, running and had dinner(Wendy's) waiting for Josh to get home. To say the least, I was very excited to get out of town. We drove to Waynesboro, VA, which is about 4 hours away. We skied at Wintergreen(about 30 minutes from our hotel) all day Saturday (including some night skiing) and all day Sunday. We had so much fun! There is a long time joke about Josh and skiing. Josh and I went skiing in 2006 in Utah before we even got engaged, and have been talking about going skiing again ever since. He had never been before Utah but kept saying "I'm an athlete, I can ski", but he was awful. But this time, he did great! I was really impressed! He didn't fall too many times, which I think made it more fun for the both of us! After skiing Sunday, we had to come home. We made it home in time to see the Superbowl 2nd half!
